Patient care training

All patient care volunteers are offered comprehensive training that includes (but is not limited to) the following topics:

Hospice History and Philosophy
Concepts Surrounding Death and Dying
Role of Volunteer / Boundaries
Patient and Family Rights
Spiritual Care at End of Life
Dementia
Terminal Disease Process
Patient Confidentiality/HIPAA
Grief and Bereavement
Psycho-Social and Family Dynamics at End of Life
Safety and Emergency Procedures
Communication Skills  
Coping with Stress/ Self Care
Pain and Symptom Management/Comfort Measures
Infection Control/Bloodborne Pathogens/Covid-19
Policies and procedures as related to position
Guidance related to specific volunteer duties
Expectations: Documentation, Continuing Education, etc.

Patient care volunteer trainings are scheduled every 10 to 12 weeks. Please check Volunteer Blog for announcements or contact the Volunteer Coordinator at tlawrence@housecallproviders.org to receive email notifications.

Volunteer orientation training

All administrative volunteers (and other volunteers not working directly with patients) receive an orientation training that includes (but is not limited to) the following topics:

Program goals, services and philosophy.
Patient Confidentiality/HIPAA
Family dynamics, coping mechanisms and psychological issues surrounding death, terminal illness and
   bereavement
Policies and procedures as related to position
Guidance related to specific volunteer duties
Safety and emergency procedures and the emergency preparedness plan
Infection Control /Covid-19/TB Awareness and Procedures
Expectations: Documentation, Continuing Education, etc.

Our newsletter is sent out three times a year to our patients and Housecall Providers supporters to let them know what we’ve been up to.
