August 7, 2014

logoMore national press focused on the return of the house call. Here & Now Contributors Network, WHYY’s Pulse contributor — and Drexel medical student — Avir Mitra retraces the history of the house call and brings you up to date on what is causing its resurgence. Audio or written article can be found at:  http://hereandnow.wbur.org/2014/07/28/doctor-house-calls. One of the house calls he went on was with Dr. Bruce Kinosian, a primary care doctor and associate professor of Medicine at Penn State University, one of the 17 sites, along with Housecall Providers, currently involved in the national demonstration project Independence at Home. Dr. Kinosian had this to say about the importance of the demonstration. “I think that Independence At Home is going to radically transform how healthcare gets delivered and gets paid for in this country. There’s probably 1.5 million Medicare beneficiaries that are eligible for Independence At Home.”
