Housecall Providers is leading a quiet revolution reinventing health care for homebound and seriously ill members of our community, but sometimes our patients need more than medical care can provide and that is where our Patient Assistance Fund become an important resource. As a nonprofit organization delivering a full spectrum of services, we focus on our patients’ health in a truly holistic way. That means we can address factors in their lives that affect their health outcomes. One of the ways we have been able to make such a large impact in our patients’ lives is through the Patient Assistance Fund.
The patient assistance fund is a restricted account funded almost entirely by donations from staff. 100% of the funds go directly to purchasing items our patients need like a blood pressure cuff, a walker, a bed rail and things of that nature. Occasionally, it has been used to purchase larger items like an air conditioning unit to battle last summer’s heat wave or a recliner so someone who couldn’t sleep in a bed would be able to get some rest. When a patient’s budget is too stretched to afford these things, it is not an exaggeration to say that buying a requested item may help prevent a hospitalization.
This year, as we met the need for increased in-home medical care in the Portland metro region, our patient assistance fund became stretched. For the first time, we are asking for donations to help us prepare for the coming year.
Please help us reach our fundraising goal of $5,000 this holiday season. There are few opportunities in the world where your donation provides exactly what someone needs exactly when they need it and is one of those opportunities.
